The Fort Bend Magic All Star Basketball Club grew dramatically in the year 2006. Starting the new season in October with just two teams the organization grew to seven teams by March. We now have boys teams in the 17U, 16U, 15U, 14U, 10U, and 9U divisions. In addition we have a girls team competing in the 13U division.
We’ve added some new and dynamic coaches to the staff: Garron Green (17U), Mike Guillory (17/16U), Ramon Smith (16/15U), Ron Hunt (16/15U), Bennie Childs (14U), Darryl Lane (13U), Oscar Wilhite (10U), and Bobby Allen (9U).
These dynamic and professional coaches put their best efforts forward during our basketball training camps starting in March and going through to the end of May. We had over one hundred campers participating throughout the life of the camp. The camps were very exciting and beneficial for all the players and parents involved. We taught the campers the basic skills needed to be successful in basketball thru a series of drills designed to help the beginners and challenge the more advanced campers. The coaches were magnificent with varying the drills and giving that individual attention when needed. The camps were held at the Missouri City Middle School in Missouri City, Texas.
Next season we hope to grow even further. “The goal is to have competitive teams in all divisions—both boys and girls”, says Ron Hunt, Program Director “We want to give our Fort Bend Magic kids the opportunity to compete against the best teams in Texas.”
On July 26th the Fort Bend “Lady Magic” All Stars traveled to Dallas, Texas and participated in the Prime Time Sports National Championships. The tournament featured some of the top teams in the nation and the Lady Magic represented our program well. They had two wins and one loss in pool play securing the number three seed. They, unfortunately, lost in the playoffs to the eventual tournament runner-up C.C. Kaboom. The players, coaches, and parents had a great time and gained valuable experience. We wish them the Best of Luck with the upcoming 2007 season!
Tryouts are currently underway. We have basketball camps again scheduled for March, April and May. The teams will be playing in the AAU Leagues and tournaments this spring and summer. The rosters for the upcoming season are developing quickly. We will only have 10 to 12 players on a team this year. Get ready for some real exciting and competitive basketball. There is a team fee which includes AAU registration, equipment, uniform, and AAU National Qualifying fees. There are also tournament and league fees. The fees are due once the roster for the 2007 season is set. We are looking for parents to manage the fund raising so volunteers are needed. Last year we received donations from many parents and friends. We were able to participate in many tournaments. We also need volunteers to keep statistics, to video tape the games and to manage the equipment. See Coach Hunt for more details.
